About the finalist

TamaraGomez
London, United Kingdom

I was born in Sri-Lanka and bought up in the UK in Essex which, for those of you outside the UK is a county just East of London. I studied gold smithing and jewellery for five years and, upon graduation from The Royal College of Art, set up my studio in central London. Over the years my style has evolved and I now design and hand craft rough diamond and gem set jewellery that takes its inspiration from nature, spirituality and intuition and techniques. My jewellery has a natural, raw luxury derived from the materials I use such as uncut diamonds and techniques such as forging. I live and work in London and my studio is based at Cockpit Arts, Holborn which is a thriving hub of craftsmen and designers studios. We have Open Studio's twice a year so if you are ever in London mid June or end of November please come say 'Hi'. I have a serendipitous approach to making and ideas and finished pieces come freely from working directly with the materials and taking an idiosyncratic approach to gold smithing techniques. I regularly use assorted cuts of diamonds including raw, rough diamonds and rose cut diamonds and my signature 'Rough diamond collection' celebrates the raw beauty of natural, uncut diamonds. As well as selling directly to the public from studio and online, my work is sold in galleries, shops and boutiques across the UK and I also have an outlet in Japan. When I'm not in the studio life is mainly filled with meditation, yoga, experimenting in the kitchen, music, gigs, books, travel, dabbling with ceramics and spending time with people I love.
