I am a marine geophysicist/printmaker, or vice versa, who lives and works in Toronto. Right now, I balance my art-making with science communication, running the Toronto Etsy Street Team and raising my baby son. My shop is a cabinet of curiosity of hand printed items, inspired by natural history, the history of science, myth, magic and life all around me. This stuffed toy features a linocut of everyone's favorite extraordinary, micro-animal who can survive extremes: the tardigrade, also known as the water bear or moss piglet. Each of these bizarre, microscopic, eight-legged creatures is hand block printed on white cotton fabric and backed with a cotton print reminiscent of the view through a microscope. These mighty microscopic creatures of 0.5 mm (0.02") maximum in length are found in environments from mountaintops to the deep sea, from tropical rain forests to the Antarctic, and can survive conditions lethal to most other animals. Tardigrades have short, plump legs and are prevalent in mosses and lichens and feed on plant cells, algae, and small invertebrates. Each stuffed animal is 15 cm x 10 cm x 5 cm or 6" x 3.5" x 2.5", and fits nicely in your hand.
